On Friday April 27th the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) handed down a ruling approving the closure of 5th Street and the preliminary design concept for an active warning at the crossing (flashing light signals with gates and bells, constant warning time circuitry, new signal cabin, and new crossing surface). The PUC has requested that the final plans be submitted by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to them no later than June 1st for their review and approval. Once those final plans are approved, the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) and CDOT will work together to finalize the schematics and enter an agreement for the construction of the improvements. They will work diligently to construct the improvements and allow for the reopening of the 5th Street crossing.
